The Idea
| |
During the 2003 football season we were tailgating in a truck. Now it was a nice truck, but it just wasn't enough. So, one day on the walk over to the stadium, we passed a Purdue school bus. That's when Jordan F. Howard came up with the idea that we should get a short bus. We all thought it was a good idea, but we didn't really talk much about it for the next few months. Then summer came around and we started talking about it a little bit more. We then started looking on the internet for used short buses. To our surprise, they were quite affordable. So, after some more searching we found the perfect fit. Jordan, Eric Prater and myself(Nick Moore) bought the short bus in June of 2004.

The Bus
The bus is born! We purchased the bus in June of. Obviously, we had a lot of work ahead of us, but we were up to the challenge. The bus did see some early action though. In July, Matt and Summer got married, and the bus would surely have to make the trip up for that. Now, who would want to spend a boatload of money on a limo to take the wedding party to the reception when you can have a short bus do it for free? Exactly! Yes, I was the chauffeur for the wedding party.

The Transformation
Between July and the kickoff of the 2004 season, we had a lot of work to do. We had the bus painted black first. Then, we spent a weekend added some accents on the outside. We painted gold on many parts of the outside. On the inside, we removed the back two rows of seats. After the seats were out we installed green turf in the back of the bus. Then we painted the dash black, installed a cd player and speakers. We also installed a train horn. Finally, we had some decals made for the sides and rear of the bus. The 2004 season was fun, and the bus made it to all of the home games and the Notre Dame game.

2005 Additions
For 2005, we wanted to make a few additions that would help enhance the tailgating experience. First, we purchased a kep tap that we would mount on the outside. We then built a bar inside to house the keg and some extra storage. Also, new in 2005, everyone who tailgates at the bus must sign the ceiling.
